Greener tees for a greener game at Yarrambat Park Golf Course

At Yarrambat Park Golf Course, it’s often the small touches that make a big difference on the green. Thanks to the dedication of long-standing member Lance Allen, the old plastic tee domes have been recycled and replaced with handcrafted wooden tee logs, giving golfers a more stylish and sustainable start to their game. 

A member for over 14 years and a regular player three times a week, Lance donated more than 30 hours of his own time to craft 80 new tee logs for the course. Using fallen wood he found during a volunteer-led working bee, Lance hand-sanded each piece in his garage and backyard before sealing them with light oak and clear varnish. 

The finishing touch? A splash of colour, blue and red paint funded by the Yarrambat Club. The blue, in fact, perfectly matches the club shirts in “harbour blue.”

The result is not only a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to the old plastic domes, but also a more environmentally friendly one. 

Alexia Morgan, Belgravia Group Manager of Environment and Sustainability said:  

“This project shows how small changes can make a big impact. By reusing natural materials from the course itself, we’ve reduced waste and created something that connects beautifully with the environment and local community.”

“It fills us with pride to see members who genuinely love their course, giving their time, energy and passion to make it better for everyone. We’re very thankful to the Yarrambat Club and especially Lance – his dedication reflects the true spirit of Yarrambat and reminds us why we’re so proud to be part of this community.”
